I believe in educating the whole-child…I believe that Character Education is just as important, if not MORE important, than academics. Integrity, honesty, kindness, compassion, sympathy, mercy…terms my students are familiar with. I believe in helping students develop such characteristics at a young age.
Anywhoozle…today, one of my students blew me away with an act of kindness.
It all started about two weeks ago. My student Daisia had a birthday; she brought goodie bags for all the kids and one for her teacher. She didn’t bring enough so Evan didn’t get one; naturally i gave mine to Evan. No big deal, right? I didn’t even think about it…but one of my students took notice.
Today, two weeks later, Jhiezl came to class early and gave me a picture she colored. Attached to the picture were several seashells she found at the beach that weekend. Underneath the seashells taped to the picture were these words, “Dear Ms. Judson, I wanted to give this to you because you had to give your goodie bag to Evan.”
I sat at my desk, stunned. What a thoughtful gesture from such a young child…
